The Cygnus multiple echo ultrasonic digital thickness measurement system is a highly accurate way to measure metal thickness to determine wastage or corrosion quickly and without the need to remove any protective coatings.
There are a number of models in the range which offer different features to suit your application. The sub menu on the left lists the models available and allows you to download datasheets and view short introductory videos. The benefits include: - Easy measurement of remaining metal thickness of corroded or coated surfaces.
- All measurements are error checked to give repeatable, reliable results.
- Accepted by all major Classification Societies.
- Greatly reduces inspection time and costs.
Example Applications:
- Maintenance and safety checks on petroleum, chemical and LPG storage tanks.
- Corrosion checks of ships' shell plates, bulkheads and inside enclosed areas.
- Metal thickness safety checks on steam and pressurised water systems, transportable gas containers and compressed air systems.
- Systematic wall thickness and corrosion monitoring of storage tanks and process vessels.
- Quality assurance metal thickness checks.
- Metal thickness monitoring on cranes, marine structures and conveying systems.
- Pipeline wall thickness monitoring.
How it works:
With the multiple echo system readings are taken by measuring the time delay between any three consecutive backwall echoes. The time of T1 (including any coating thickness) is ignored. The times of T2 and T3 are equal to the time that it takes to travel through the metal. Only by looking at three echoes can the measurements be automatically verified (where T2=T3).
